Okay, I told myself that I was not going to blog about this but here I am. Let me start of by mentioning that L'Oreals reps deny any altering of Beyonce's features and skin tone.

My position on this whole issue sheds light on a deeper issue, if in fact L'Oreal did alter the image then they are only portraying what minorities are perpetuating. We all are affected by the same influences in major media such as TV and Print and it does have an unconscious effect, we have an idea that beauty is supposed to be a certain something and we spend our lives trying to attain whatever that is.

I read a lot of blogs and some of the comments are shocking, people are degraded for being who God made them. If someone has a large nose or dark skin they are talked about and ridiculed. How can so many people be upset over a simple ad when they buy into and support these companies who sell back what the people ask for.

If dark skin and large noses were celebrated by any given community then our advertisements would certainly reflect that, so rather than being angry at L'Oreal for creating an Ad that reflects the thoughts of its consumers I am upset at the consumers for perpetuating such a false image of beauty.

They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but how can it if the beholders image is clouded.
