The film takes place in Carolina during the 1960’s at the home of three remarkable sisters, August, June and May. These sisters have carved out a piece of the world for themselves where the two strangers, Lily and Rosealeen, are more than lucky to have found this oasis in the midst of their own unbearable lives. The writer and director Gina Price Bythewood incorporates the historic events of the era with the witty personalities of the women. Just like bees everyone in this family has her own special roles. Everyone should find out just how many secrets these bees are keeping.
