The city of Fort Wayne is spending $7 million of federal funds to clear our and remove hundreds of abandoned and foreclosed homes. City Mayor Tom Henry announced the grant from the U.S department of Housing and Urban Development on Friday.

This has the potential to be a good thing for the city and its residents or it can be a bad thing. Usually when something like this happens the city brings in investors and builders to cut up the land and create residential single family homes which doesn't help the people who lost their homes due to the economic crunch. This also seems to be a very strange time for urban development, unless they create low income affordable housing.
