The Pulse of Entertainment: A rapper with a grade "A" flow from Chicago and a DJ with some of the best beats in the business from New Jersey who met at the University of Pennsylvania join forces and formed Kidz in the Hall. While one finished his degree the other relocated to Los Angeles to get things started.
Kidz in the Hall consist of Naledge (Rapper) and Double-O (DJ/Producer). Their name came from their time spent on campus hanging in the halls.
While Double-O was in Los Angeles he met producer Just Blaze who decided to oversee their debut album. In the January of 2006 they signed with Rawkus Records, but the deal was for Naledge (with Double-O has his official producer). But that didn't stop the duo from shopping Kidz in the Hall. Once Rawkus owners heard about their pursuit as a duo, they decided in mid-2006 to sign Kidz in the Hall as a duo.
The debut album on Rawkus/Universal Records, "School was my Hustle" released in October 2006 and is a very impressive album. It shows the potential of the pair. The flow, lyrics and quality of tracks can easily match up with and major MCs such as Jay-Z and NAS. "This is years in the making," Double-O points out about the CD. "(It's been a) struggle up to this point. I've grown as a producer and he has grown as a MC." Naledge notes his influences as Common, NAS and Jay-Z, which may account for the similarity in the flow and creativity of the lyrics. "We want people to hear it and give us a platform to turn around and affect change," Naledge concludes.
My favorite cuts on the "School is my Hustle" CD is "Wassup Jo," "Wheels Fall Off," "Ms. Juanita," and "Day by Day."
